Here's how most CAS firms use AI right now. One general-purpose tool — ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot — jammed into a dozen workflows. Draft this email. Reconcile this account. Summarize this report. The output is inconsistent because no single model can carry that much context across that many tasks.

Redesign it as a multi-agent system. Agent one handles bank and clearing account reconciliation — matching transactions against pay run reports, processor statements, and amortization schedules. When something doesn't tie, it doesn't guess. It flags. Agent two prepares recurring journal entries in your firm's exact format with supporting detail attached. That specification is your practice knowledge — the stuff that currently lives in your senior accountant's head, walks out the door when someone leaves, and takes six months to rebuild when someone new starts. Multi-agent systems don't eliminate the need for that knowledge. They require you to document it.

Start with one agent in one workflow. Your clearing account reconciliation. Your payroll journal entry prep. Build the specification. Test it against real client data. Then add the next agent.
